On May 3, the Buddha’s Birthday Celebration Committee of the Midwestern U.S. Branch of the Special Overseas District of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism held a joint Dharma assembly at Dongguk University’s Los Angeles campus to mark the occasion and pray for an end to war and world peace.
This year’s theme, “Mind in Peace, World in Harmony,” was chosen to express the aspiration to end war and build a peaceful world through the Buddha’s compassion and wisdom amid an international climate of deepening conflict and division. The celebration provided a meaningful opportunity for the Buddhist community to convey a message of peace amid ongoing global crises and tensions.
The sangha gathered to reflect on the significance of the Buddha’s arrival in this world, and two students, one from the Los Angeles Buddhist College USA and the other from Dongguk University’s Buddhist Club, were awarded scholarships. Additionally, attendees enjoyed a special dance performance and spent time together to strengthen their bonds of friendship and solidarity.
