On August 27, the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism expressed its deepest condolences to the people of Nepal, who are suffering greatly from a sudden disaster. 

In a statement released that day, the Order said, “We ardently pray that the people of Nepal will soon overcome their suffering and regain their peaceful daily lives. We also pray for the rebirth of all the victims in the Buddha’s Pure Land,” and added, “We share in the people’s grief and will support the swift rescue and relief efforts.”

The full text of the statement is as follows:

“We share in the suffering of the people of Nepal and will join in relief efforts.”

We extend our deepest condolences to the people of Nepal, who are suffering greatly from a sudden disaster.

On August 26, floods struck Rasuwa in northern Nepal and the region bordering China and Tibet, causing significant damage, including loss of life and the destruction of villages, roads, bridges, and power facilities.

The pain of our neighbors is our own pain. We earnestly pray that, through the Buddha’s compassion and wisdom, they will overcome this hardship.

The Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, through its Social Welfare Foundation and Dreaminus initiative, is launching a fundraising campaign for emergency relief. We urge the entire Buddhist community to actively participate. The compassionate hands of Korean Buddhism will reach out tenderly to all corners of Nepal affected by the floods.

Furthermore, we plan to determine how we can assist more effectively at the order level to ensure that emergency relief efforts are carried out efficiently.

We ardently pray that the people of Nepal will soon overcome their suffering and regain their peaceful daily lives. We also pray for the rebirth of all those who have perished in the Buddha’s Pure Land.

We share in the pain of the Nepalese people and will support the efforts for swift rescue and relief.
