The World-Honored One has Arrived, and All Things Sing and Dance!

The Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism

From thirty years of age to eighty,

Manifesting endlessly from a single body in thousands of forms. 

Spreading the resounding Dharma throughout heaven and earth,

He has saved all sentient beings in the universe.

The Buddha’s arrival in this impure and evil world is truly a rare and joyous event indeed.

He came to this land so that all may realize the perfect wisdom and virtues of the Tathagata and use them to live the life of a Buddha. He came to this land to show us how to attain the true nature of life.

The Buddha’s countless teachings heal conflict and discord through harmony, transforming violence and war into peace, and guiding us to replace ignorance and afflictions with wise insight.

The various problems in the realm of phenomena, caused by the Three Poisons, can be resolved and healed through the Three Trainings. Because we fail to see our perfect, majestic true nature, which is already fully manifest here and now, we tremble with anxiety and fear. Because of this fear, we cannot unite as one.

The Buddha came to this world to teach us how to live in harmony and happiness. The essence of his solution is revealed in his teaching: ‘The mind, the Buddha, and sentient beings are without distinction.’ If we view the world with the insight that ‘the mind, the Buddha, and sentient beings are without distinction,’ and understand that the wisdom and virtues of the Tathagata are fully present in our true nature, we can live a life like the Buddha’s, recognizing that we are all fundamentally not different. He came to this world to demonstrate this truth, and all things in heaven and on earth sing and dance in praise of the Buddha.

Therefore, it is truly a day to rejoice. 

A stream of cool spring water, clear and deep,

Flows leisurely across mountains and fields.

It flows thus, drawing strength from the sages of old,

And has not ceased for a single moment from that day until now.
