The Traditional Cultural Festival was held on April 27 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in front of Jogyesa Temple on Ujeongguk-ro Road as part of Yeondeungheo (Lantern Lighting Festival) celebration. The festival featured traditional Korean and Buddhist cultural experiences and various performances.
A statue of the baby Buddha was enshrined near the main stage in front of Jogyesa Temple, where people participated in a ceremony to praise the Buddha’s arrival on earth by pouring water over the statue. On both sides of the street, 66 organizations set up 95 booths under seven themes of “Seon meditation,” “Tradition,” “Sharing,” “NGO,” “Food,” “International,” and “Youth MZ. The booths showcased a variety of Buddhist cultural experiences, including traditional crafts, meditation, and temple food tastings. Eight overseas Buddhist countries, including Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Taiwan, Myanmar, Thailand, Japan, and Mongolia, also participated in the festival to showcase diverse Buddhist cultures.
At the stage set up on Gongpyeongsageori Street, 19 groups presented a variety of traditional performances from noon to 6 p.m., including Pungmullori (Korean folk percussion music), Ganggangsullae (circle dance), and Bukcheong Lion Dance. At 7 p.m., another lantern parade was held in Insadong and Jongno, culminating with performances by Yeonhi Troupe, inviting everyone to join in.
